Flushing Retrievers
Jake finished his 8th season of hunting, and just like last year, he was on top of his game. He still likes to let the girls flush, then he retrieves to take all the credit. But, I can see he's starting to slow down. I notice he's giving the girls more of a chance at retrieving lately. Not sure how much he'll get used this fall since he's turning 10 years old.
Sunny is the old "mama" now and is teaching Sammy her place. They learn more from Jake then I can ever teach them. All of them have great dispositions, love to hunt, and of course have way more energy than I do. Jake will hunt all day and then some. They are mainly just retrievers, whether it be land or water. Once again this year Jake has been pointing when he spots birds close or pinned down in the brush. I'm wondering if somewhere down the line one of his ancestors wasn't a pointing lab, it seems to come natural for him. But then all it takes is a simple command; "get'em up" and he's tearin'up the turf to get the bird.

Jake, Sunny and Sage as pups.
Unfortunately we had to get rid of Sage last summer. She went to a great breeder in S.D. She was a great hunting and will be missed.
Sammy showed great field potential during her first season last fall. She has a great nose and great drive. Sammy is the grand daughter of
Helm's Point Doctor PT
who has been seen on ESPN "Gun Dogs" and featured in OUTDOOR LIFE. Sammy has a great pointing pedigree from Kellogg & Candlewood and she is a decendant of
FC AFC CANDLEWOODS MAD MOUSE,
who's offspring also include the well know
FC-AFC The Marathon Man
FC AFC Gunstock's Caramel Crunch
& 2x NAFC FC 2xCNAFC Ebonstar Lean Mac.
